Race Face Puts on Their 650B Face

New Turbine wheels for XC to AM uses straight pull bladed spokes in 650B and 29er. It’ll come with a 15mm thru axle front and 12×142 rear, with conversion parts available to run QR rear.  Rims have a 21mm inside width, 25mm outer, and 19mm height. They’re tubeless compatible, and they’ll offer a tubeless kit and XD driver as aftermarket options.  Hubs are their own, with full sealed cartridge bearings and a three pawl mech.  Price point is around $600, making them a good upgrade over a basic no name OEM wheelset or as a budget replacement. 1800g and 1880g depending on wheel size.

 

Race Face is also bringing back the 3pc design crank with the new NEXT SL carbon crank.   Oversized 30mm spindle with a replaceable ring or spider option.

Pivot Adds 27.5 Les and Mach6-50B

From Left Field - Raleigh Joins the Darkside with 2014 650B Launch.

I had no idea Raleigh was even contemplating entering the 650B market, but alas, they came out swinging.  The line up is men's and women's specific, totaling 8 hardtail including one chromoly frame.  The women's bikes are named Eva.5 while the men's take the ToKul (I'm guessing the pronunciation is "too-cool") title. Pricing starts at $550 and tops off at $1850.  All bikes are equipped with a standard 1 1/8" headtube, nothing tapered.  The women's bikes feature a 100mm travel fork while the guys have 120mm.  The idea behind the Eva series is to be a gateway bike for off-raod trail riding.  4 frame sizes designed for riders ranging from 5' - 6 '.  XS-L.
All of the Raleigh 650B bikes are using a 28mm wide rim to add extra girth to any tire used.  The rim is supplied by Weinmann as the U28 rim.  

Raleigh has jumped into the mix with the mantra of Fit Being Crucial to Having Fun and Being in Control on the Trail.

New Panaracer Driver Pro 650B x 2.22 Tire

I'd like to call it the "follow effect."  Not that Panaracer is following anyone to the 650B tire market, as most of us know Pacenti teamed up with Panaracer in 2006 to produce the award Winning Neo Moto 2.3 tire, to be followed up with the Quasi Moto and Neo 2.1 tires.  Panaracer has also produced the Fire XC Pro for IRD in the 650B diameter, not to mention years of production for 650B rando and pavement tires.  This company follows no one to the 650B Market!  I refer to the Cedric Gracia factor.  With Cedric to the slaying trails on the new Santa Cruz Bronson, it was only natural for Cedric to also ride a Panaracer 650B on the beast.  And so, I give you the new DRIVER PRO 2.22" for 650B.  

The 650B Driver Pro will offer a folding aramid bead as well as Panaracer Proprietary ZSG compound for increased grip in most weather situations. The tire is being produced in Japan at a weight of approx 570g.  Made to fly through the straights and still give plenty of bite on the corners this tire inspires confidence in every dryer condition ride you can throw at it. X-Fusion Introduces Sweep 160 650B Dedicated Fork

X-Fusion Shox brings a dedicated 650B fork to market. The Sweep expected to be available in June of 2013, as an early release 2014 product. Their focus on new product explains why I've been waiting for a 1.125 Velvet RL2 with X15 since December.
 The new Sweep will join the ranks with its 34mm brethren 26" Slant and 29" Trace. This model will fill X-Fusion's gap for the Endruo market with the Sweep travel to be internally set from 120-160mm. 
Features include 34mm Stanchions, 46mm 650B Specific Offset, RL2 Dampener, X15 axle, DLA and remote lockout options. Probably to be offered as a Tapered Steer only, but the jury's still out on that.  All around weighing in under 4.5 lbs/2020 grams.   Retail pricing will be around $600
